The ucMax Web interface is designed to work with the following browsers:
- Netscape Navigator 4.0 and above
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and above
- Mozilla Firefox 1.0 and above
To find out the number of the browser version you are currently running, please do the following:
- Netscape Navigator - from the Help menu, select About Communicator.
- Microsoft Internet Explorer - from the Help menu, select About Internet Explorer.
- Mozilla Firefox - from the Help menu, select About Mozilla Firefox.
If necessary, you might want to visit the CNET Browsers Website to download the appropriate version of one of these
browsers.

The ucMax service uses JavaScript technology in its Web pages. Therefore you must enable JavaScript in order for the Web pages to function properly. Please refer to the
Enabling JavaScript and Cookies section to ensure that the settings of your browser are correct.

ucMax uses cookies to identify you while you are using the service. This is the sole purpose for the use of cookies by ucMax.
A "cookie" is a small amount of information that a Website copies to your hard disk. A cookie can help a Website identify you the next time you visit.
Are cookies secure?
Yes. Enabling cookies allows ucMax to track your sessions within ucMax. However, ucMax will not get access to any other information on your hard disk.
Please refer to the Enabling JavaScript and Cookies section to ensure that the settings of your browser are correct.

ucMax uses JavaScript and cookies in your browser.
After making the following adjustments, you may need to close your Web browser (all windows) and then restart your browser.
To enable cookies and JavaScript, see the directions for your browser version below:
Windows Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.X
- From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
- To enable JavaScript, do the following:
- Click on the Security tab on the "Internet Options" window.
- Select Internet as the "Web content zone".
- If you have never customized your security settings for this zone (i.e., Custom is not selected for the Security Level):
- Select (by moving the slider) Medium or lower for the security level, in order to fully utilize all of the features of the ucMax service.
- Otherwise:
- Click the Custom Level... button to display the "Security Settings" window.
- Scroll down to the "Scripting" section and select the Enable button for the Active scripting option.
- Click OK on the "Security Settings" window to return to the "Internet Options" window.
- To enable cookies, do the following:
- Click on the Privacy tab on the "Internet Options" window.
- Click on the Edit... button at the bottom to override cookie handling for individual Web sites.
- Enter ucmax.com in the Address of Web site box.
- Click Allow to add ucmax.com to the list of Managed Web sites below.
- Click OK on the "Per Site Privacy Actions" window to return to the "Internet Options" window.
- Click OK on the "Internet Options" window.
Windows Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.X
- From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
- Click on the Security tab.
- Select Internet as the "Web content zone".
- If you have never customized your security settings for this zone (i.e., Custom is not selected for the Security Level):
- Select (by moving the slider) Medium or lower for the security level, in order to fully utilize all of the features of ucMax.
- Otherwise:
- Click the Custom Level... button to display the "Security Settings" window.
- Scroll down to the "Cookies" section and select the Enable button for the Allow cookies that are stored on your computer option.
- Select the Enable button for the Allow per-session cookies (not stored) option.
- Scroll to the "Scripting" section and select the Enable button for the Active Scripting option.
- Click OK on the "Security Settings" window to return to the "Internet Options" window.
- Click OK on the "Internet Options" window.
Windows Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.X
- From the View menu, select Internet Options.
- To enable JavaScript, do the following:
- Click on the Security tab.

- If you have never customized your security settings for this zone (i.e., the Custom button is not selected under Security Level is not selected):
- Select Medium or Low for the security level, in order to fully utilize all of the features of ucMax.
- Otherwise:
- Select the Custom button for the security level, and click the Settings... button to display the "Security Settings" window.
- Scroll to the "Scripting" section and select the Enable Active Scripting button.
- Click OK on the "Security Settings" window.
- To enable cookies, do the following:
- Click on the Advanced tab.
- Scroll down to the "Security" section and select one of the following for the "Cookies" option:
- Always accept cookies
- Prompt before accepting cookies

Windows Netscape Navigator 7.X
- From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
- Click on the Advanced category on the left side of the Preferences window. Expand the list to show subcategories.
- Click Scripts & Plugins under Advanced. On the Scripts & Plugins window, check the Navigator checkbox under the "Enable JavaScript for" heading.
- Click on the Privacy and Security category on the left side of the Preferences window. Expand the list to show subcategories.
- Click Cookies under Privacy and Security. Click Enable cookies for the originating site only.
- Click OK.
Windows Netscape Navigator 6.X
- From the Edit menu, select Preferences....
- Click on the Advanced category on the left side of the Preferences window.
- Check the Enable JavaScript for Navigator checkbox.
- Click on the Privacy and Security category on the left. Expand the list to show subcategories.
- Click Cookies. Select one of the following buttons:
- Enable all cookies
- Enable cookies for the originating web site only
- Click OK.
Windows Netscape Navigator 4.X
- From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
- Click on the Advanced category on the left side of the Preferences window.
- Check the Enable JavaScript checkbox.
- In the Cookies section, select one of the following buttons:
- Accept all cookies
- Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating server

- From the Tools menu, select Options....
- Click on the Privacy category on the left side of the Options window.
- On the right side of the window, click the "+" to the left of Cookies if necessary to expand the section.
- Check the Allow sites to set cookies checkbox.
- Click on the Web Features category on the left side of the Options window.
- Check the Enable JavaScript checkbox.
- Click OK on the Options window.
Macintosh Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.5 and 5.X
- From the Edit menu (or Explorer menu if using Mac OS), select Preferences.
- Under the Web Browser section on the left side of the window click Web content. On the right side of the window:
- Check the Enable scripting checkbox.
- Under the Receiving Files section, click Cookies, and select one of the following from the pull-down list labeled
When receiving cookies:
- Never ask
- Ask for each site
- Ask for each cookie

| Problems loading ucMax Web pages |

The cache is the location on your computer's hard disk where Web pages and files (such as graphics) are stored as you view them. This
speeds up the display of pages you frequently visit or have already seen, because your browser can open them from your hard disk instead of from the Web.
If you are having a problem getting a ucMax page to load, it may be because your cache contains an old version of the page and is
trying to load that instead of the newer version. By clearing the cache you are forcing your browser to go to the Web and download a new copy of your page.
To clear your disk cache, follow the instructions below for your preferred browser:
Windows Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.X and 6.X
- From the Tools menu, select Internet Options.
- Click the General tab.
- In the "Temporary Internet files" section, click Delete Files....
- Check Delete all offline content and click OK on the "Delete Files" popup window.
- Click OK on the "Internet Options" window.
Windows Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.X
- From the View menu, select Internet Options.
- Click the General tab.
- In the "Temporary Internet files" section, click Delete Files....
- Click OK on the "Delete Files" popup window.
- Click OK on the "Internet Options" window.
Windows Netscape Navigator 6.X and 7.X
- From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
- Click the Advanced category on the left side of the window to expand it, and select Cache below it.
- Click Clear Memory Cache.
- Click Clear Disk Cache.
- Click OK.
Windows Netscape Navigator 4.X
- From the Edit menu, select Preferences.
- Click the Advanced category on the left side of the window to expand it, and select Cache below it.
- Click Clear Disk Cache.
- Click OK.
Mozilla Firefox 1.X
- From the Tools menu, select Options....
- Click on the Privacy category on the left side of the Options window.
- On the right side of the window, click the Clear button next to Cache.
- Click OK on the Options window.
Macintosh Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.X and higher
- From the Edit menu (or Explorer menu if using Mac OS), select Preferences.
- Click the Web Browser section on the left side of the window to expand it and click Advanced below it.
- On the right side of the window, click Empty now.
- Click OK.
Macintosh Netscape Navigator 4.X and higher
- From the Edit menu (or Netscape menu if using Mac OS), select Preferences.
- Click the Advanced category on the left side of the window to expand it, and select Cache below it.
- Click Clear Disk Cache (or Clear Cache for Mac OS).
- Click OK.

| Overriding helper applications in Windows |
|
Some applications installed on your PC can handle certain types of files (sound files with a .wav file extension, image files with a .gif or .jpg extension, fax images with
a .tif extension, etc.). When your PC comes across a file type that it knows about, it launches one of your installed applications to handle that file. If you would like to
change the application which handles a particular file type, please follow these instructions:
- Open Windows Explorer. (Note: this is not the Internet Explorer browser).
- From the View menu, select Folder Options.... This will open the "Folder Options" window.
- Click the File Types tab.
- Look through the "Registered file types" list for the file type you want to modify. Click on the file type once to select it.
- Click Edit... to open the "Edit File Type" window.
- If open is listed in the Actions box, click it once to select it. This will open the "Editing action" window. Skip
to step 9.
- If open is not listed in the Actions box, click New... to open the "New Action" window.
- In the Action box, type open.
- To change the Application used to perform action, click Browse.... The "Open With" window will pop up.
- Find the folder which contains the application that you want to handle your file type. Click the name of the application once to select it.
- Click Open in the "Open With" window.
- Click OK in the "Editing Action" (or "New Action") window.
- Click OK in the "Edit File Type" window.
- Click Close in the "Folder Options" window.
- The application you selected will handle this file type from now on.

| Why did my ucMax session time out? |
|
For your security, ucMax automatically times out your session 8 hours after you log in.
- Check the date and time of your computer, and be sure they match the actual date and time.
- Make sure that your browser is configured to accept cookies. Additionally, if you have set up your browser to prompt you before accepting cookies, you must agree to
accept cookies during the login process.
Note: ucMax uses cookies to manage your session. Please refer to our Privacy Policy for
additional information.
- Turn off any third party software that automatically rejects cookies.
